ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are staffing up for summer 2024 and the 2024-25 school year, and looking to add talented part-time Teaching Artists to our instructional team who are excited about sharing their craft with Oakland teens– in particular video production, film, design, and animation professionals. The summer position would start June 6th with 8-10 hours of meetings and prep in the first week, ramping up to 20-25 hours per week for the 5-week summer program. There are opportunities to continue through the school year at one or more of our school-site programs, depending on schedules, strengths and availability.
This is an ideal opportunity for local creators looking to secure some reliable part-time work, or those looking to get their foot in the door in the world of media education at a rapidly growing non-profit program. Staff members may also have the opportunity to take on additional hours and lead freelance media projects through our social enterprise production company, YouthBeat PRO.
Teaching Artists will report to YouthBeat’s Education Director. They will plan and implement curriculum, help manage student projects as students create, and help to build and grow our media arts career pathway. Applicants should demonstrate a mastery of technical skills of video production or animation (ideally) as well as passion and an ability to connect with inner-city teens (a must).
YouthBeat is a quickly growing organization with a ton of potential for additional future hours and work. Our organization is growing quickly, and whomever we hire for this job would have an inside track at additional responsibilities and work in the coming years at YouthBeat.
Our Teaching Artists play a crucial role as we grow our capacity to serve more Oakland youth. We are looking for experienced, professional creators (video, photo, animation and/or design) who are excited about training and mentoring low-income, BIPOC teens. Could that be you?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with diverse, inner-city youth from Oakland schools as they learn the basics of filmmaking and/or animation.
Plan, deliver, and refine curriculum as part of the teaching team
Participate in Professional Development and Staff Trainings
Follow data and attendance tracking procedures and complete monthly progress reports for YouthBeat
Lead and complete media projects along with students for paying clients as part of our youth production company, YB Pro. (These opportunities offer additional freelance opportunities and income for our employees and students, as well as access to our professional production gear at KDOL-TV.)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree preferred from an accredited college or university in a related field: Media Studies that includes Video Production, Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, etc.
Ability and passion for working with diverse, inner-city teenagers.
In-depth working knowledge of the three stages of video production.
Editing experience in Adobe Premiere (or animation software)
Additional media skills a plus: Photography, Motion Graphics, Music Composition, Web Design.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to move and set up professional production equipment.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
YouthBeat seeks a dynamic and dedicated Media Academy Program Manager to help maintain program quality and build capacity within our rapidly expanding organization. The Program Manager will play a vital role in shaping the educational and professional journey of the youth we serve. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help lead our instructional team, develop curriculum, build relationships with students and schools, and ensure that our programs continue to thrive.
The Program Manager will assist the Education Director with maintaining the quality of all education programs, including meeting with school sites, coaching staff, developing curriculum, and facilitating and coaching in our young adult apprentice program. The Program Manager will oversee data collection, including attendance, participant quotes/testimonials, and surveys. They will also support alumni outreach and engagement efforts, to support alumni and help build community.
The Program Manager is a full-time, in-person role that reports to YouthBeat’s Education Director and is based at our studio, KDOL-TV. In addition to managing our media education programs, the Program Manager will play a key role in making sure the space, equipment, and production gear are prepared and utilized for student use so that staff and students get all the resources and support they need.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Support:
Work with the Education Director and instructional team to develop engaging and relevant curriculum, ensuring that our programs align with the needs and aspirations of our youth.
Fill in and teach as needed to deliver programming and serve students
Provide support and training to program staff, interns, and volunteers.
School Partnerships:
Work with the Education Director to build and nurture relationships with local schools, staying in close contact with school staff, counselors, and principals to enhance our programming and address any issues that may arise.
Participate in periodic site visits and classroom observations to ensure program quality.
Student Recruitment:
Actively recruit students from diverse backgrounds, making sure that Oakland youth have access to our programs and can navigate the ongoing, rolling enrollment process effectively.
Represent YouthBeat at community events to spread the word about our programs and recruit participants
Help create fliers, videos, decks, and other materials for outreach and recruitment.
Facility Management:
Oversee the KDOL studio and classroom space, maintaining cleanliness, equipment inventory, and preparation for classes and production shoots.
Help coordinate gear checkouts for students, staff, and classes
Student Evaluations & Data Tracking:
Assist in the planning and conducting of evaluations to assess student competencies in classes and internships, helping them prepare for future careers
Maintain accurate attendance, enrollment, and data tracking systems to support grant reporting and internal program evaluation. Ensure that program staff are consistently recording attendance and providing qualitative updates for their classes.
Grant Compliance & Reporting:
Assist in ensuring that YouthBeat meets its grant compliance requirements, including documentation and reporting.
Create regular reports and updates from our education programs and collect student testimonials to feed into communications and development efforts.
Student Work Distribution:
Regularly track and update student films into the KDOL Broadcast system and update Youth Beat’s internal tracking system of student work.
Manage quarterly submissions into local and national film fests.
Regularly curate a best of folder for student work that can feed into Youth Beat communication & development efforts.
Alumni Engagement:
Help coordinate alumni engagement efforts to help young adult creatives access career opportunities
Communicate with YouthBeat’s alumni network, providing support while tracking outcomes and impact stories for development purposes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in education, film production, or related field preferred.
2+ years of experience in program management (ideally with a youth organization), curriculum development, or media production.
Experience working with youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in Slack, Google Workspace, and the Adobe Suite.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Passion for youth media and commitment to Youth Beat's mission.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Post-Production Supervisor you will train the next generation of editors at YouthBeat, while providing excellent service and video deliverables to our clients. You will delegate editing work to your junior editors, personally take on senior editing and post-production responsibilities on complex projects, manage our post-production calendar and focus our efforts on strategic business goals.
This position will report directly to YouthBeat’s Creative Director, and work collaboratively with Senior Producers on high-end video projects. The position will supervise youth assistant editors/producers to take on editing projects and also work directly with clients throughout the post-production process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management:
Collaborate with the YouthBeat PRO team to align on post-production deliverables and deadlines.
Create and maintain a comprehensive post-production schedule and resource allocation plan
Coordinate with various departments to ensure seamless workflow and timely delivery of project components.
Monitor project progress, identify potential issues or delays, and implement solutions to keep projects on track.
Interface and work directly with clients to respond to their post-production needs and ensure satisfaction with quality deliverables.
Serve as a primary point of contact for all post-production-related inquiries and updates.
Communicate project status, progress, and any potential issues to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
Team Management:
Supervise, coach, and mentor a small group of junior editors
Assign tasks, set priorities, and provide guidance to team members to ensure efficient and high-quality work.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting effective communication and teamwork among the post-production team.
Hire external vendors as needed that align with our project needs and can handle future workload as we scale.
Be an expert in our processes and make sure the team follows all operating procedures on a daily basis.
Quality Control:
Ensure the technical and creative quality of all post-production deliverables, including video/audio quality, color, visual effects, and overall aesthetic consistency.
Review and provide feedback on edits, graphics, visual effects, and other elements to ensure alignment with project goals.
Implement quality control processes that confirm video quality prior to being sent to the client for review.
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in post-production workflows.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness in the post-production process.
Recommend and implement new tools, software, or techniques that can enhance the post-production workflow.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Film or Video Production, Media Studies, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
Experience working in a high-volume, quick turnaround post production environment.
Proven experience as a Post Supervisor or Video Editor in a marketing company, creative agency, post-house or similar role.
Strong knowledge of post-production processes, including editing, visual effects, sound design, and color grading.
Proficiency in post-production software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite

ABOUT THE ROLE:
YouthBeat seeks a dynamic and dedicated Development Director to join our team. The Development Director will play a crucial role in advancing our mission by leading fundraising efforts to support our programs and initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grant Writing and Reporting:
Research, write, and submit grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies that match organizational priorities. Write and assemble clear, concise, well-crafted LOIs, grant proposals and grant reports.
Collaborate with staff to create or manage the creation of supplemental materials (e.g. videos, impact stories, support letters, etc.) for grant applications, reports and donor communications.
Track and meet all deadlines for grants, creating, updating and refining the grants and development calendar.
Prospect Research and Donor Development:
Identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, including individuals, businesses, and community organizations.
Maintain the individual donor database and develop strategies to engage and steward donors at all levels of giving.
Fundraising Events and Outreach:
Plan and execute fundraising events, including but not limited to galas, auctions, and community gatherings.
Coordinate outreach efforts to expand YouthBeat's donor base and increase community engagement.
Donor Communications:
Develop compelling fundraising materials, including solicitation letters, newsletters, and impact reports.
Manage communication with donors to express gratitude (ensuring prompt and appropriate gift acknowledgment), provide updates on program outcomes, and solicit ongoing support.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, business) preferred.
5+ years of experience in fundraising, with a track record of successful grant writing, donor development, and event planning.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Passion for YouthBeat's mission and a commitment to empowering youth through media education.
Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
