Youth Beat Programs

Youth Beat's award winning after school & summer programs take place at KDOL-TV, the state of the art television studio of the Oakland Unified School District.

KDOL is located at 286 East 10th Street, Oakland—near Lake Merritt BART and Laney College.

All our classes are completely free of charge for OUSD high school students, and we provide free snacks and bus passes for students to get to and from our programs.


Summer 2019

 

Future Filmmakers Summer 2019

Mondays - Thursdays, 1-5pm

This class lasts six weeks, June 17th - July 26th 2019.  (No Class on 4th of July)

*Students who attend the summer Future Filmmakers program can apply for the advanced program in the Fall.

 

Advanced Filmmaking Summer 2019

Mondays - Thursdays, 1-5pm

This class lasts six weeks, June 17th - July 26th 2019.  (No Class on 4th of July)

*Students who attend the summer Advanced Filmmaking program can apply for a paid internship in the Fall.

 

2019-2020 School Year


 

Future Filmmakers

Tuesday/Thursday 4:30-6:30

This class lasts for the full school year.  It starts on August 26th, 2019.  

Provides 10 art or elective credits through the Oakland Unified School District.

 

Animation

Monday/Wednesday 4:30-6:30

This course covers the fundamentals of 2D and 3D animation.  It starts on August 25th, 2019 and lasts the full year. 

Provides 10 art credits through the Oakland Unified School District AND 3 community college credits through Laney College. 

 

 

Advanced Video Production

Tuesday/Thursday 4:30-6:30

This class lasts for the full school year. It starts on August 26th, 2019. 

Provides 10 art credits through the Oakland Unified School District AND 3 community college credits through Laney College.

*Students must complete Future Filmmakers summer camp or after school program or pass an entrance exam to be placed in this class.

 

TV Studio Production

Monday/Wednesday 3-5pm

This is a semester long dual-enrollment class at Laney College.

Provides 3 community college credits through Laney College as well as OUSD credit.

*Students must enroll through Peralta Colleges to enter the class. If you need assistance with this process, please contact us.

Youth Beat Internships

Once you have completed the Youth Beat Future Filmmakers and Advanced Filmmaking programs (either school year or summer long) you can apply for a Youth Beat paid internship. The internship lasts for the summer or full school year. Interns are paid a stipend at the end of each semester.

Youth Beat Advisory Council

If you are a current student or TA with Youth Beat you are invited to apply to join our Student Advisory Council. For the Spring Semester of 2019, the council will meet three times and is responsible for curating and designing our end of the year showcase at The New Parkway. Upon applying you will go through an interview process. Only five spots are available. This is a paid position. At the end of the year the participants of the Advisory Council will receive a $100 stipend.
